Located in the historic Mina de São Domingos, next to the river beach and surrounded by the striking landscape shaped by the region’s former mining activity, Casa da Torre was created through the careful restoration of the former police barracks of the mine, once operated by the Mason & Barry company, the entity responsible for the exploitation of this important 19th-century mining complex.

This accommodation combines the historical character of the building with a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, offering a peaceful stay in one of the most distinctive areas of southern Alentejo. Its proximity to the river beach and to the landscapes shaped by the old mining operations makes it an excellent base for discovering the history, nature and unique identity of the region.

Set within a low-density landscape of remarkable environmental quality and close to the Dark Sky® Alqueva territory, Casa da Torre also provides an ideal setting to experience the tranquillity of the night and the beauty of the Alentejo’s starry skies — among the most preserved in Europe.

The house offers five double rooms and one triple room, all equipped with private bathroom and air conditioning. The quality of the service, the comfort of the rooms and the warm family hospitality make it an inviting place to relax and enjoy a memorable stay.

One of the most distinctive features of the house is the possibility of climbing the tower, from where guests can admire the unique landscape of the former mining fields and the vast horizons that characterise this part of the Alentejo.
