Located in the historic town of Mértola, overlooking the Guadiana River and nestled within the labyrinth of streets and narrow alleys of the old medieval town, Casa do Funil is a space designed for those who wish to discover the cultural heritage and the unique landscapes of southern inland Alentejo.

Situated on the main access to the cultural and picturesque landmarks of the so-called museum town, the house allows guests to easily explore the castle, the historic centre and the banks of the Guadiana, where nature and history meet in a landscape shaped by centuries of human presence.

The architecture and interior atmosphere reflect the simplicity and aesthetic character of Alentejo. In a bright and contemporary space, the whitewashed walls embrace the interiors and create a calm and welcoming atmosphere, ideal for resting and enjoying the serene rhythm of this region.

All rooms offer views over the Guadiana River, private bathrooms and excellent comfort and privacy. On the terrace, overlooking the river and the surrounding landscape, guests can enjoy moments of quiet contemplation at the end of the day, accompanied by a glass of wine selected from the house’s shop of local products.

Located in a region of remarkable natural and cultural richness and within the Dark Sky® Alqueva territory, Casa do Funil also benefits from the environmental quality and peaceful nights that characterise this part of Lower Alentejo. Mértola is one of the places where the absence of light pollution allows the sky to be observed with exceptional clarity, making it possible to admire the Milky Way and thousands of stars with the naked eye.

As night falls, the silence of the streets of the town and the proximity to the Vale do Guadiana Natural Park create an ideal setting to experience the unique beauty of the Dark Sky® Alqueva starry sky, internationally recognised as one of the most preserved in Europe.
