Tradition, Wine and Sensory Culture between the Heritage of Évora and the Dark Sky® Alqueva Territory
In the historic heart of Évora, a city classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lourowines preserves a commercial tradition deeply connected to the culture of wine in the Alentejo.
Located at Rua José Elias Garcia, No. 32, in the city centre, this historic establishment traces its origins back to 1951, keeping alive the identity of the traditional specialised shops that have long been part of Évora’s urban life. For more than seven decades, Lourowines has established itself as a space where tradition, knowledge and hospitality come together, reflecting the deep connection between Évora, wine and the culture of the Alentejo.
Today, Lourowines stands as a place dedicated to the discovery and appreciation of wine, offering a carefully curated selection that highlights producers who authentically express the character of the Alentejo and other Portuguese wine regions. From renowned labels to small producers with distinctive identities, each bottle reflects the landscape, climate and history that shape Portuguese wines.
One of the central elements of the Lourowines experience is its guided wine tastings, led by João Passos, where participants are invited to explore aromas, structures and nuances through an attentive and engaging sensory approach. These sessions can take different formats, from commented tastings to more immersive experiences that challenge both palate and olfactory memory.
João Passos is also responsible for leading the Via Vínica in the Milky Way experience, a blind wine tasting created within the experiences of the Dark Sky® Alqueva territory. In this unique concept, wine and cosmos meet in a sensory narrative that invites participants to discover wines without labels or visual references, first through the senses, and then beneath one of Europe’s most pristine starry skies.
The international dimension of Lourowines is also reflected in the way it welcomes visitors. Tastings and experiences can be conducted in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French and Italian, allowing travellers from different backgrounds to explore the world of Alentejo wine in depth.
Complementing this vocation for refined sensory experiences, Lourowines is also a Habanos Silver Point, a distinction awarded to venues that meet high standards in the selection and conservation of premium Cuban cigars. This combination of wine and Habanos culture creates a particularly suitable setting for calm and sophisticated tasting moments.
Between tradition, wine and heritage, Lourowines is part of the Official Dark Sky® Alqueva Partner Network, representing a place where wine culture is experienced with authenticity, a natural connection between the historical heritage of Évora, the identity of Alentejo and the sensory experiences that define this unique territory.
